| Term | Definition |
| AF (Axle-to-Frame) | The distance from centre of rear axle(s) to the end of frame. (see Chassis Dimensions) |
| Blower | A pump (for example Hibon) used to transfer by air dry products such as concrete or grain. The pumps can be either tractor or trailer mounted and normally operate at pressures below 5 psi. |
| Chassis Dimensions | Terms that are commonly used to describe a truck and its components. Sales people will need to know dimensions to ensure your equipment fits on the truck correctly. Examples include CG - Center of Gravity, CA - Cab to Axle, CB - Cab to Body |
| Driveline | The system of drive shaft consisting of universal joins, slip yokes and flanges between the transmission and axle. Danco is certified to modify and repair drive shafts to manufacturer specifications. |
| Frame Section Modulus | Engineering term that indicates the relative strength of frames as it relates to shape. It takes into account frame depth, flange width and material thickness. All other things being equal, the frame with the larges section modulus will have the greatest strength and stiffness (ie the ability to resist sagging under loads). |
| GAWR | Abbreviation for Gross Axle Weight Rating. The value specified by the vehicle manufacturer as the load capacity of a single axle system. |
| hiab | An early developer of articulating cranes. Todays industry has become highly competitive with a dozen manufacturers of articulating cranes but the word hiab frequently means folding crane. Other synonyms include knuckleboom, knuckle picker, or just picker. See also Amco Veba, and Terex-Atlas |
| Hoist | Mechanism (usually a winch) for elevating bodies, either level or tilting. Hoist winches need to be smooth in operation to provide the operator control. |
| Inside Width | Unobstructed inside loading width of a van or deck. |
| JIC | Abbreviation for Joint Industry Committee, an organization set up to standardize hydraulic fittings specifications and symbols. Equipment that uses JIC fittings such as the Amco Veba Crane line will be easier to repair and service. |
| Kingpin (for front axle) | Pin that connects the front axle and steefing spindle. |
| Lift Gate | A form of endgate that uses a hydraulic or mechanical hoisting system to drop the gate to ground level. Power lift enables the gate to be used to raise loads to the truck deck for loading. Also called Elevating Gate, Load Gate, Power Gate or Tailgate Lift. |
| Mounting Height | Distance from top of chassis cab frame to bottom of body floor. |
| Mounting Subframe | Subframe members securely fixed to truck chassis frame. |
| NTEA | National Truck Equipment Association. The Trade organization repersenting the commercial truck and transportation industry. Established in 1964. Danco is an MVP member of the NTEA. |
| Outriggers | Folding or sliding leg devices attached to trucks to give additional support down to the ground for maximum stability. |
| Payload | The weight of product a truck can haul. Payload is calculated by subtracting the finished weight of of a truck and equipment (including drivers, passengers, fuel and hydraulic fluid) from the GVW. |
| RBM - Resisting Bending Moment | A calculation used to compare frames of different section modulus and aof different material. It is the product of the section modulus times the yield strength of the frame material. The formula is expressed as: RBM = Section Modulus x Yield Strength |
